The Technical Coordinator will work closely with our Interest Groups and Chapters, our board of directors and with external partners involved in thought leadership initiatives.

To support the IRM in becoming the global thought leader and principal voice on enterprise-wide risk management and the “go-to” membership body for the ERM community by ensuring that it is always ahead of the game in developing and improving the practice of enterprise risk management through its customers, members and partners

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Undertake investigative work, collate, analyse and interpret information in order to make innovative and practical recommendations to develop and improve the practice of enterprise risk management and inform the future priorities of the IRM.
  2. Produce, agree and implement a strategic and affordable plan for the development of risk management thought leadership which informs and is coordinated with the IRM’s strategic, business development and marketing plans.
  3. Work to align the Special Interest Groups, Regional Special Interest Groups, and IOR Chapters with the priorities set out in the strategic plan for risk management thought leadership in order to make the best possible use of their expertise and input and coordinate effort.
  4. Initiate, secure and maintain strategic partnerships with other institutes and professional bodies, universities, further education establishments, consultants and others in order to deliver the specialist knowledge and research needed to achieve the strategic plan for risk management thought leadership.
  5. Commission and contract for the delivery of activity to develop and improve the practice of enterprise risk management and support the strategic priorities, reputation, prestige and financial performance of the IRM.
  6. Identify opportunities for funding or joint funding of activity and deal with applications, donor requirements, compliance and evaluation of outcomes.
  7. Lead and/or organise thought leadership events such as roundtables, etc.
  8. Lead on the IRM’s response to public consultation documents and industry initiatives which may impact the enterprise risk management community and the IRM’s customers.
  9. Represent the IRM at conferences and events to establish and maintain its position as the principal voice on enterprise risk management.
  10. Oversee the production of accurate high-quality technical content for use in reports, in the media, on social networks and with experts and approve it for release.


This post holder does not have line management responsibility.

The post holder has budget responsibility for the delivery of the risk management thought leadership plan.

The post holder will build and maintain an extensive network of contacts in the UK and globally.

Knowledge and skills:

The post holder must have a relevant professional qualification such as the IRM International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management or equivalent and have experience of working in a significant role in risk management.

He or she must:

  • Have experience of analysing developments, trends and concepts and producing innovative and practical recommendations for change;
  • Be able to express ideas clearly and persuasively in writing;
  • Have excellent presentation skills and experience of delivering effectively to a variety of audiences;
  • Be a skilled and effective networker;
  • Have experience of procuring and managing contracts;
  • Have experience of managing and delivering projects to time and budget; and
  • Have experience of working with senior colleagues, boards and diverse groups of stakeholders with sometimes conflicting needs.
