IRM announces global ambassador for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos

Saman Bandara SIRM, Partner, Head of Insurance, Forensics and IT Risk & Analytics at EY Vietnam, completed the Institute of Risk Management Financial Services Certificate a few years ago and has worked with EY for over 11 years. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants in England and a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants in Sri Lanka.

He is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner and a member of the Global Advisory Council of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Saman said:

“The Indochina region is undoubtedly one of the most promising regions in the world in terms of the opportunities for businesses; however, in terms of management of risk there is a long journey to go compared to other developed markets.
Development and appreciation of proper risk management could make this region even more promising. IRM, as the premier risk management institution, can take the leading role in raising awareness of risk with relevant stakeholders and support the development of risk management practice in this part of the world. I am delighted to be able to be at the vanguard of this initiative.”

Saman along with other global ambassadors will act as local IRM experts to help students and professionals making a career in the risk profession. They will do so by disseminating information about the benefits of studying and qualifying with IRM and by forging local networking groups to share of best practice and advice.

Currently the IRM has a handful of members in SE Asia and is keen to develop relationships in the region.

Nicola Crawford, CFIRM, Chair of the IRM said:

“This is an exciting development for the IRM to be able to reach out to global members who are experts in their field and leverage their expertise in local markets.

SE Asia as an economy is developing at an exponential rate and has a huge bank of talent coming out of the education system – now is as good a time as any to help develop enterprise risk management to ensure business longevity and success, particularly in the banking and insurance sectors.

I’d like to thank Saman for his commitment to the IRM and really look forward to working with him and the other newly appointed ambassadors going forwards”.
